This is a light Indigo coloured, handloom cotton, kimono sleeved overlay shirt dress with beautiful Herringbone hand embroidery accents.
Handloom cotton is a type of fabric that is woven using hand operated looms. Two sets of interlacing yarns, the warp (length) and weft (width), are woven on a mechanised loom operated by weavers. These looms do not use electricity. Human handling lends the fabrics a unique feel and renders the fabrics more value. The resultant fabric is softer and much more comfortable than machine-made fabrics. Handloom cotton is more breathable and thus feels lighter in summers and is perfect for layering in winters.
The art of hand weaving is labour intensive and takes a longer time. But, the beauty it adds to the fabric is priceless. Choosing handloom cotton supports the rich weaving heritage of India and lets the weavers carry on the precious art-form to the future generations as well.

This is a made-in-heaven mul cotton, screen-printed saree.
The process of screen-printing involves the usage of a mesh-screen that is strung onto a metal or wooden frame at high tension. A stencil with the negative image of what is to be printed is placed beneath the screen and emulsion is applied to create a positive image that lets the dye seep through the screen. This way, the dye is applied on the fabric through the screen to print the desired image. The base on which the design is printed for this blouse is made-in-heaven mul fabric.
The mul cotton is what we call ‘made in heaven’ at Suta. Known in many parts of India as mul mul, the fabric is buttery soft, flowy and delicately beautiful. This fine 100% cotton weave of a fabric is extremely fluid! It is also very light and feels like second skin. It is also very practical as summer attire and dries easily in monsoons as well! The day I’ve been dreaming about is finally here - I’ve made the big move to the City of Dreams. It’s a bittersweet feeling... while I’m excited for the journey ahead, it was very hard to say goodbye to everyone back home. The first thing I noticed about Mumbai is how much I sweat here. It’s so hot and humid, and it’s still spring! I have to go shopping - none of the clothes I brought with me make any sense here. I am taken aback by how small the apartments here are! My entire house is the size of my room back home. But home is so far away. It feels as though my entire life has been packed into little cardboard boxes and all those boxes placed inside a slightly bigger box. Tomorrow, I will begin unpacking. I will savour each moment of this evening and then stow them away in a faraway corner of my mind, so that I have room to make new memories.
