She’d never forget Shanaya. From the moment she first walked into the classroom, her curly hair brushed into an almost angelic halo, Meera knew that Shanaya was special. She had this almost cherubic way about her, and an innocence that sparkled in her deep grey eyes. But what captivated her the most was the way Shanaya’s mind worked. She seemed to live in a parallel dimension, dreaming up new worlds and new adventures that they could embark on, together. That friendship had been short-lived, but it taught Meera a valuable lesson in owning your individuality, with all its quirks. From Shanaya, she learned to live each day to its fullest, and to make each moment count. And, in doing so, she would go on to create so many beautiful memories that were her life’s truest treasures.
Live life to its fullest when you wear this elegant red handloom Jamdani saree.
Jamdani is an incredibly intricate weaving technique. Each motif is inlaid into the fabric using a supplementary weft technique. Here, extra weft threads, often denser than the base, are added using individual spools while weaving. This technique makes the motifs appear as though they are floating on the fluid cotton fabric. Jamdani weaving is highly time intensive and it takes anywhere between several weeks to months to weave one saree. It is indeed a labour of love.

This red and white made-in-heaven mul saree with screen-printed design is a must-have this festive season!
The designs on this fabric come alive on our made-in-heaven mul sarees through an intricate process known as screen-printing. This process involves the usage of a mesh-screen made of synthetic polymers that is strung onto a metal or wooden frame at high tension. A stencil with the negative image of what is to be printed is placed beneath the screen and emulsion is applied to create a positive image that lets the dye seep through the screen. The dye is then applied on the fabric through the screen to print the desired image.
The base fabric for these sarees is the forever-favourite made-in-heaven mul.

After a month of festivities, she was physically, mentally and emotionally spent. The memories, as they said, were priceless but that did take a toll on her as someone who had a limited social battery. She was eager to get away and spend some time alone, although she was riddled with guilt about feeling this way. Late one afternoon, she decided to go out on a solo drive. She folded the roof of her convertible and let the wind rush through her hair. The pallu of her saree danced like a love-struck dervish and the corners of her mouth bent into an uninhibited smile. Yes, there were parties to attend and celebrations to host. But this moment was about her and celebrating who she was.

She capered through the crowded marketplace in Banaras and soon, found herself at her father’s shop. She dusted her feet before stepping on the pristine white sheet that covered the shop from end to end. Once inside, she scurried into a corner behind the tinted glass. From here, she observed her father’s kingdom, while obscuring herself. On this day, like every other, there was a family outside — they were being attended to by her father and his associates. She wistfully pulled out her sketchbook and fell into a trance. She drew flowers from the lands she dreamed of visiting and those she saw every morning.
Find your way back to inspiration in our cream and blue Aasmani Parinda katan Banarasi silk saree. The weave wrought with fascinating Kadwa technique spotlights each individually woven motif on the pallu.
Rooted in the textile traditions of the ancient city of Varanasi, Banarasi sarees are among the finest sarees in India. They are known for their rich gold and silver brocade or zari, fine silk and opulent embroidery. The saris are made of finely woven silk and decorated with intricate designs.
This Suta saree is made of handloom silk, in the exquisite kadhwa weave. The zari used in this saree is quality tested. It takes our master weavers roughly two weeks to create a single saree. What makes these sarees extra luxurious is that 1.5 times more silk is used in the warp. They feature Suta’s proprietary moth-inspired floral motif, which makes them stand apart from traditional Banarasi weaves that feature predominantly floral and foliate patterns.

It was the most exciting time of the year – Onam was just around the corner. She dutifully marked each day leading up to the festival on the calendar with a small tick. When the sun finally dawned on the day she’d been waiting so eagerly for, she hurriedly took a shower, wore her festive best and hurried to the town square, where she joined her peers for the ‘pookalam’ or flower rangoli competition. For a moment, she felt her mind go completely blank. A wave of panic washed over her – she’d been preparing for this the entire year and she could not afford to forget! But then, she took a few deep, calming breaths and let her mind drift to all the fantastical creatures she had met, in the many folktales her grandmother would read to her. In her mind’s eye, she saw a beautiful white elephant decorated with gold jewels and flowers. The elephant floated before her eyes before melting away into a mound of white grains of rice. She instantly knew that that would what she would bring to life – with the rice grains, flour, white blossoms, marigolds and asters. As she worked, the bare floor bloomed into a vision of perfection.

Pujo was synonymous with Didun’s bari. She tried to remember each year in separate red envelopes. These cloth cases were saved in the corners of her mind. But however much she tried, the happy red bled into other psychological recesses. Thank god it did! Pujo at Didun’s house was a melting pot of endearing snippets. The arrival was marked with toys — toys her grandmother made with clay. The house smelt of condensed milk, jaggery, grated coconut and incense. More prominently, it had this sheen of celebration. It used to be readied for Maa Durga and — for a daughter coming back home with her children. The house was also in constant chaos; it was always preparing for the next thing. This tension usually shot up in the morning hours when her mother, grandmother and aunties slipped into their Anjali looks. Whatever they wore, they looked dreamy.
She wondered if the occasion they dressed up for play a trick. Because Anjoli, the chanting and coming together in prayers, always brought out her sincerest sentiments.

The mul cotton is what we call ˜made in heaven at Suta. Known in West Bengal as mul mul, the fabric is what can be categorised as muslin cotton. It is believed that this fine method of weaving cotton can be traced back to even before the Indus valley civilization. What makes this fabric special is the almost magical process of weaving it. Cotton fibres are separated and spun into strong threads. The lightest and the most delicate fibres are separated and are then spun into muslin thread. These are then woven into fabrics by skilled weavers. The history of muslin weaving is a beautiful chapter in the history of Indian textiles. The process of the yore was much more complex and involved many unique tools that look primitive but worked like magic. The upper jaw of a catfish was used to initially clean the cotton before spinning. To separate the lightest fibres, a Dhunkar (a bamboo bow) was used, which when strung in a distinctive way made the lighter fibres rise above the heavier ones. This process gave the title ˜woven air to the muslin fabric.
