Story

The Spanish countryside was beautiful. But, her heart still longed for home. It longed for the familiarity of the yellow gold of the morning sun, as it crept through the frosted glass of her bedroom window. For the bright orange of the garland that her mother would hang outside their apartment. For the scarlet fire of the peppery broth that was a staple of their midday meals, this time of the year.

But as she rounded the bend of the narrow street that led to her new home in this unfamiliar terrain, her eyes were rewarded with a sea of scarlet-tinted gold. An expanse of French marigolds lay before her, extending as far as her eyes could see. In that moment, she knew that no matter how far away she was or how long it had been, she would always carry a little bit of home with her, in her heart.
