Story

Lights out. Two tiny dimmed rays of light turn on from two sides of the king-sized bed. Two heads are seen scrolling and scrolling and scrolling endlessly — he, on his side of the bed — and she, on hers. News, tweets, WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, memes, funny videos, movies, series…continue on separate tracks night after night. Sudden giggles, they glance up from our phones, smile at each other, share the joke, and sometimes slide a little closer for a hug. At other times, they go back to the endless and mindless scrolling! There are of course nights when they spend hours deciding on a movie, watching it and then discussing it after it’s over at dinner. That leaves me wondering, have our gadgets made us alone even when we are together or are they somehow binding us in this strange mystery of the digital world? Are they giving us a reason to laugh and learn more often or are they taking away the small opportunities to share a moment together from our everyday lives? Do we not have enough to talk about or is it poetic bliss to be reading a book or watching our phones with our backs to each other, holding hands from time to time, and being completely comfortable in the silence that lies ahead for hours on end?
This black kurta with red and white detailing may not bring you clear answers but it tends to take the shape of its wearer’s heart and sets its binding soul free.

Description

Handloom cotton is a type of fabric that is woven using hand-operated looms. Two sets of interlacing yarns, the warp (length) and weft (width), are woven on a mechanised loom operated by weavers. These looms do not use electricity. Human handling lends the fabrics a unique feel and renders the fabrics more value. The art of hand-weaving is labour intensive and takes a longer time. But, the beauty it adds to the fabric is priceless. Choosing handloom cotton supports the rich weaving heritage of India and lets the weavers carry on the precious art-form to the future generations as well.

The beautiful pomegranate-inspired motif that symbolizes the co-existence of contrasts is hand-woven into the fabric and brings a gorgeous charm to the fabric. It reflects the idea of breaking stereotypes and looking at things in more than one way, of acceptance and un-labeling. Are you ready to box up all those labels and promise never to open that box again? Welcome to the world of “Anaar Hi Anaar” then! There is one anaar for everyone — whether you choose to wear a saree or a kurta or stitch a dress with its fabric.
